Diagnosis of Keratoconus Problem
As with all diseases, early diagnosis is very important in keratoconus.
In order to make a diagnosis, the disease must first be suspected and further tests must be performed.
For a definitive diagnosis, corneal maps called corneal topography should be taken.
In the very early stages of keratoconus, symptoms may appear on the posterior surface of the cornea before the disease shows symptoms on the anterior surface, so new generation corneal maps showing the posterior surface of the cornea are very valuable in diagnosis.
Unfortunately, in places where there are not enough facilities, keratoconus patients may be misdiagnosed as lazy eye for years and the diagnosis and treatment may be delayed.
