Preparation Before Excimer Laser
- One of the most important stages in laser treatment is undoubtedly the initial examination.
- Because, the more detailed and accurate this examination is, the more successful the postoperative result will be.
- In this examination, the patient's eye measurements are taken, then the cornea layer is mapped and corneal thickness is measured,
- After surgery, pupil size, which is very important for night vision, is measured.
- The pupil is dilated with cycloplegic drops and drop eye numbers are checked.
- A very detailed examination of all anterior and posterior segment structures of the eye is performed, starting from eyelash bases and lid positions.
- The patient's reflexes are evaluated. In patients with strong reflexes, this should be taken into consideration when determining the method. It is a factor that may affect the outcome in terms of compliance with the surgeon and instruments during surgery.
- Dry eye tests are performed, if there is dry eye, it must be treated before laser. Otherwise, serious healing problems will be experienced and tadevi will result in under or over correction.
- Eye pressure must be measured.
- A detailed retinal examination is performed in order not to miss retinal thinning, degeneration and holes, which are very important especially in high myopes. Preoperative detection and treatment of these is vital for the postoperative health of the eye.
- All this information is combined to determine whether the patient is a suitable candidate for laser treatment.
