Stating that Nuran Çınar came with the complaint of blurred vision that was not clear even though she was wearing glasses, Şalvarlı told Ankara Hürriyet:
20-year complaint
“The patient had eye complaints for 20 years. Before coming to us, he visited many centers and was diagnosed with keratoconus (thinning of the corneal layer forward and visual impairment with increasing astigmatism). He was even recommended corneal ring surgery for keratoconus. When he applied to us for surgery, I determined that the patient had keratoconus during the examination, but not to the extent that would require surgery.
He sees 100 percent
The visual loss in our patient was not due to keratoconus, it was indicative of a neurologic problem. Therefore, we asked the patient for an MRI examination. The brain MRI revealed that the cerebral fluid was not circulating and there was edema behind the right eye. He needed surgery immediately. Otherwise, he could become blind and deaf within a year. There was even a danger of paralysis in the future.
Our patient underwent a successful operation by the neurosurgeon and after the operation, his severe headaches that had not gone away for years disappeared. The areas of vision loss in the visual fields regressed and shrunk. Visual acuity levels, which we could only reach 40 percent with the best correction before the surgery, increased to 100 percent. Hearing loss in the ear has not completely recovered, but it has decreased.”
